Executive Personal Development Helps Managers Prepare for Future Endeavors

Executive development isn’t limited to the classroom, but through any activities offering developmental experience.

Training and development for executives may be offered through seminars, human resources or outside classes, or at-work training. Training is not limited to work skills and may include personal and behavioral development. Personal development relates to helping executives expand their horizons along with increasing self-confidence, interpersonal skills, knowledge, and motivation. Executive development isn’t limited to the classroom, but through any activities offering developmental experience. This experience includes learning about leadership, attitudes and behavior, tolerance, cultural diversity, and goal setting.

Managers and their subordinates need executive development instruction for improving current performance as well as for preparing for future positions. Subordinates need the same training as managers for self-development. The goal of personal development is to develop people, not just skills. Consequently, executive personal development is designed to improve performance, enhance morale, and increase the overall health of a company.

People have different learning styles and needs, and managers must assess developmental needs individually. While technology offers many great teaching aids, it is not the complete answer. Studies show, for example, that e-learning may only be an electronic page-turner. People may not do the work on their own, as they have to be motivated to learn. They need to be taught in person by an excited and enthusiastic teacher using various modes of instruction to cover all learning styles.
